THE 2026 PLAN
Lake Louise shuttle season: May 15 to October 12, 2026.
Moraine Lake shuttle season: June 1 to October 12, 2026, weather permitting. Moraine Lake Road is closed to personal vehicles year-round.
Reservation release: 40% of Parks Canada seats opened April 15. The remaining 60% are released at 8 a.m. Mountain Time two days before departure.
Where you start: regular Parks Canada daytime shuttles begin at the Lake Louise Park and Ride at the ski resort. Check in there during the one-hour window on the reservation.
One ticket, both lakes: after check-in, the ticket includes the first lake, the Lake Connector, and the return to Park and Ride.
BOOKING CALENDAR
For a July 18 visit, the rolling release is July 16 at 8 a.m. MT—not midnight.

THE PART MOST PEOPLE MISREAD
Your booking window is a check-in window, not a seat on every bus all day.
Drive to Park and Ride
Use the Lake Louise Park and Ride at Lake Louise Ski Resort, 1 Whitehorn Road. Parking is free for shuttle reservation holders.
Check in on time
Go to the kiosk during the one-hour departure window. The reservation holder receives the boarding documentation needed for the system.
Visit the first lake
The lake selected at checkout is the first destination from Park and Ride. You cannot casually swap that first leg at the curb.
Use the connector
Board the first-come Lake Connector between Lake Louise and Moraine Lake, then return to Park and Ride from a lake.
Driving to Lake Louise does not create a connector ticket
Paying to park at Lake Louise Lakeshore does not, by itself, give access to the Lake Connector. Parks Canada requires the appropriate shuttle boarding pass or an eligible Roam reservable product.
WHICH LAKE FIRST?
Choose based on the longest activity, not the prettiest imagined sunrise.
Moraine Lake first
Useful when the Rockpile or Larch Valley is the priority, or when you want the less flexible access handled before moving to Lake Louise.
Lake Louise first
Useful for Lake Agnes, Plain of Six Glaciers, canoe timing, or a meal reservation. Long hikes need enough margin for the connector and final return.
Only one lake
Better for families, mobility needs, poor weather, or anyone doing a substantial hike. The ticket includes both; your day does not have to.
Two lakes, no long hike
Reasonable if the group can tolerate queues. Parks Canada tells visitors to expect at least a 30-minute wait and potentially an hour at busy times.

PARKING IS A DIFFERENT PRODUCT
A park pass, a shuttle ticket, and a parking payment solve three separate things.
Park and Ride
Free for Parks Canada shuttle reservation holders. This is the normal starting point for daytime Parks Canada service.
Lake Louise Lakeshore
Paid parking applies from 3 a.m. to 7 p.m. during the 2026 shuttle season. Parks Canada warns that visitors without confirmed transport are unlikely to find parking.
Moraine Lake
Personal vehicles are not permitted year-round. Use Parks Canada, an eligible Roam product, or a licensed commercial operator.
IF PARKS CANADA IS SOLD OUT
Change the transport, the time, or the day—do not drive around hoping.
Try the 48-hour release
Be logged in before 8 a.m. MT two days ahead. Have the first lake, departure window, and exact party size decided.
Check Roam Transit
Roam has its own routes and reservable products. Connector eligibility depends on the product, so read the current conditions before checkout.
Use a licensed operator
Compare pickup location, time at each lake, return policy, and whether the company is licensed for Moraine Lake Road.
Choose a different day
Johnston Canyon, Lake Minnewanka, Banff town, or a lower-demand hike is a better fallback than losing hours to parking uncertainty.
PACK FOR THE WAIT, NOT ONLY THE PHOTO
Both lakes are mountain day-use areas, not controlled attractions.
Before leaving
- Screenshot the reservation.
- Confirm Mountain Time.
- Check trail and weather reports.
- Know the final return.
Carry
- Warm and waterproof layers.
- Water and food for delays.
- Sun protection.
- Bear spray for appropriate hikes.
Do not assume
- Cell service at Moraine Lake.
- A seat on the next connector.
- That lake weather matches Banff.
- That paid parking will be available.
FIT THE LAKE DAY INTO A REAL ITINERARY
Keep the next morning lighter if the lake day includes a tea-house or Larch Valley hike.
