ABOUT GOTOBANFF

A planning site for the decisions that are easy to get wrong.

Independent travel-planning publication

WHAT THIS SITE DOES

GoToBanff turns scattered rules, schedules, maps, and seasonal constraints into usable trip plans. The focus is not on collecting every attraction. It is on helping a visitor decide where to stay, how to reach the lakes, what must be booked, and which backup plan still works.

Guides are written for independent travellers. GoToBanff is not Parks Canada, a municipality, a transit agency, or a resort.

HOW THE GUIDES ARE BUILT

The standard is useful evidence, not travel-blog theatre.

Primary sources first

Fees, road access, parking rules, shuttle procedures, and operating dates are checked against the agency or operator responsible for them.

Tradeoffs stay visible

A cheaper hotel can create a costly commute. A famous stop can require a reservation. Guides show those consequences instead of hiding them in a footnote.

Dates are labelled

Volatile details are tied to a season or update date. Readers are sent to the official source when a schedule, price, or closure can change.

No invented experience

The site does not manufacture personal anecdotes, imply that a place was tested when it was not, or dress a search summary up as firsthand reporting.

WHAT TO VERIFY BEFORE YOU GO

Mountain conditions can outdate any guide.

Parks and roads

Check Parks Canada advisories, Alberta 511, trail reports, and fire or smoke notices close to departure.

Shuttles and transit

Confirm reservation windows, pickup locations, and the return trip with Parks Canada, Roam Transit, or the operator.

Commercial bookings

Confirm prices, cancellation terms, inclusions, and accessibility directly before paying.

START WITH THE DECISION

Choose a base, build a realistic itinerary, then reserve the fixed pieces.
